Kampong Cham, Cambodia
Christianity makes up only 0.3% of the Cambodian population. So when we were asked to start a CHE initiative in 2 rural communities, we were very excited. Though proselytizing is not permitted, the country does allow the free practice of religions.
We joined local missionary CHE champions in starting 2 new CHE chapters in Kampong Cham, a rural community near the capital city Phnom Penh. We were also able to partner our efforts with World Hope who had established a mushroom growing cottage industry with the villagers.
The community had a strong desire to learn about preventative health care, and as many of the attendees were women, infant and women’s health were popular subjects. Through this training, they grew in confidence to teach the others in the community. “At first I did not think that I could be a teacher, but now I know I can do this!”
